Ayurveda about Menstruation & Women Health

Ayurveda found uniqueness with women at very early stages and started to unfold the different conditions with the women. In comparison to men, women are more complex body system of hormones and biological processes; we know it very well today . If women have a unique biological processes, their Doshas should also behave a little bit differently? Does it happen? Do women need to take care of different conditions with a great awareness? Yes, surely!! Let’s know all about what Ayurveda talks about Women. All in this world are composed of two traits. One is warm and other cold. In our bodies or even on the whole universe these warm and cold traits can be identified very easily. Pitta is hot and Kapha is cold, Vata is of a dual nature so we can’t place it in a different place. Among Panchmahabhootas- Akash (Ether) and Vayu (Air) are dual in nature and Pruthvi (Earth) – Jal (Water) duet is cold and alone fire is pure warm in nature. Women are always considered representatives of “Hotness” is a truth medically also according to Ayurveda. As women represent the hot, they have more fiery elements inside the body.

Blood is a representative of hot elements in side the body as it carries, Pitta always with it and Pitta is warm in nature. And this is the reason, why women face maximum problems related to the blood. These may be the menstrual problems, as blood is involved directly in it or it may be skin diseases, Ayurveda believes that all skin diseases are caused by blood only.

Women are unique in many ways in comparison to males. Women have a unique body system and Ayurveda has noted down it in a better way. Health of women in any society is a prime consideration because through healthy women only one can think about a healthy progeny and a healthy future. Beside this women are the most mystical as well as beautiful creation of God.

Specific conditions of Doshas in females
Menstrual cycle is the most important biological process in the female. This is not only related to the body but involvement of Mind is also clear to us. One can note the psychological ups and downs through Mood- Swings, which are common in all women during the menstrual cycles. Ayurveda has told three different states of

Doshas in relation to the menses-

Time of month Involved Doshas Sign and Symptoms of Doshas
From 7th to 10th days Kapha, as body and uterus stores all essential materials for the development of the body Heaviness in the body and higher anabolic rates
11th to 15th days of the month Pitta, as flow of hormones is at a peak in this period Skin diseases, as Pitta is elevated in the body and flow of the blood inside the body is enhanced
Just after cessation of flow Vata, as after a loss of blood and other tissues from the body an emptiness appears, where Vata resides Dryness in the body, lightness and different aches in the body.

Age wise effect of Doshas

Age Involved Dosha Sign and Symptoms
Before Menarche Kapha Heavy voice, high body weight
On Menarche Highly Increased Pitta Skin diseases starts to appear all of a sudden
Reproduction Phase Pitta dominant period Pitta dominates on two other buddies of its
Pre-menopausal Vata suddenly increases Body aches, osteoporosis due to increased dryness by Vata
Post-menopausal Vata dominant Vata, rules rest of the life, making body dry, week and thin

From above two charts it is clear now that Doshas are always in a complicated inside women body. For this women need a proper care of their Doshas and should take a proper diet to maintain the body and its health in a proper way. Ayurveda revolves around the theory of the three Doshas and above table confirms all about the Doshas in accordance to the different conditions.

Modern science has confirmed that all health patterns of a female is dependent on her hormonal status and Ayurveda has shown this very beautifully and clearly. According to the same theory we can easily classify all the female problems in three different ways. Classification will make it easy to understand the topic and to treat the condition accordingly.
